“Pillars of Education” began as an exciting opportunity to create a masterpiece on a blank canvas at Hopewell Middle School in Alpharetta, GA. In this case – 5 large dark green canvases! As the project progressed and faculty input was received, it took a life of its own. Related images and concepts blended into the design and the three powerful messages of “Teach, Inspire and Empower” provided content to the banners that hang majestically within.

As Thoroughbred Design Group worked on the mural, our hope is that each visitor will enjoy the new “coloring” of the panels, and every student might be inspired for a moment, a day or a whole school year as to the possibilities that lie before them.

Many thanks need to be shared with all who were involved with this project. First of all, to Hopewell Middle School for taking the brave step of doing something most schools wouldn’t think of doing. Thanks to Principal LeMoyne, who stepped into the project halfway through and saw it to its completion. Peggy, Darleen and Craig – Who provided great insight, friendly greetings and keys to open the closet with all my supplies. Denise, Patty and the ladies in the office, who had smiles everyday and lent me everything from pens to chairs to a lamp. Glenn Levant for his metal-smithing genius, Options Signs for their great work, Cara Sherlock for assembling this incredible web site, and to Kelly and Christie, who were the best assistants in the world. Last, but not least, a big thank you to Dr. Patterson. Without her vision and input, the “Pillars of Eduction” wouldn’t have seen the light of day.
